There has been a long tradition of choral singing at St John’s, and for the last 40 years this has been led by the adult choir. The choir of volunteers are skilled amateurs with a sprinkling of professionals, including ex-choral scholars.

The choir rehearses for around 45 minutes before Sunday mass, with only occasional extra rehearsals, and typically sing a setting, introit and communion motet at the mass.

Choral Evensong and Benediction is celebrated about once a month around festivals, carol services and sequences for the season are also sung.

The choir goes on tour, singing at cathedrals and abbeys in the UK and abroad.  In 2016 we sang for mass at St Peter's Basilica in Rome.

Lionel Bourne has been organist and director of music at St John’s since 2006. He is ably supported by assistant organist, William Nicholson.
