There has been a long tradition of choral singing at St John’s, and for the last 40 years this has been led by the adult choir. The choir of volunteers are skilled amateurs with a sprinkling of professionals, including ex-choral scholars.

The choir rehearses for an hour before Sunday mass, with occasional extra rehearsals, and typically sing a setting, introit and communion motet at the mass.

Choral Evensong and Benediction is celebrated about once a month around festivals, carol services and sequences for the season are also sung.

The choir goes on tour, singing at cathedrals and abbeys in the UK and abroad.  In 2016 we sang for mass at St Peter's Basilica in Rome.

The adult choir frequently sings with the children’s groups, supporting them in services and rehearsals during the week when people are able.
